Knuthske Mansion - 17 Frederiksgade, 1265, Denmark
Operated by Karberghus
About this space
A humble winter residence Right-wing politician Christopher Adam Valdemar Count Knuth left his mark on Frederiksstaden when he built the Knutske Palæ at the end of the 19th century. Part of Dehn's Palace is demolished to make way for the count's new winter residence, which in height, shape and appearance compliments and contrasts with the neighboring properties. The bright facade is elegant and decorated with canopies with relief above the windows of the first floor; whimsical masquerades in high relief sit above the windows on the second floor. However, the location between Frederikskirken to the east and the statue of Frederik V on Amalienborg Castle Square to the west is far from humble; the Knutske Palæ is part of Copenhagen's most significant architectural complex; then as now bathed in royal stardust and today completed by Henning Larsen's Opera on Holmen.
