Dressed up for a party With the fleet's relocation to Holmen, new upscale residences could be built between Kongens Nytorv and the harbor following the Parisian model. Brønnums' was the first and immediately occupied by the city's top bankers, the Henriques family and the Hirschsprung couple. They were surrounded by the cultural elite of the time; Henriques' held salons with musical artists such as Grieg and Gade, ballet master Bournonville was a frequent guest, and fairy tale poet HC Andersen made a weekly visit with stories and paper clips. Hirschsprung's interest in art meant unique Japanese golden leather wallpaper in the living rooms, and a summery frieze painted by the Skagen painter Niss, among others, brings the bright, Danish summer night into the house. With one of the newest techniques of the time, stucco, you could decorate per mold and let yourself be carried away by historical myths and tales. Brønnum's is the city's most opulent greeting from a time when, in construction, people looked back rather than forward and brought style elements from near and far to give them symbolic meaning that 'created atmosphere'. Confectioner Valdemar Brønnum, known for warmth and spaciousness in the Copenhagen entertainment scene, gave the house a popular name from the start, and on the ground floor the tradition is carried on in the cocktail bar 'BRØNNUM'.
