'The White City', a modernist masterpiece in Danish architecture With today's world-renowned Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen's vision for modern man's life lived in simple, well-functioning surroundings and in close contact with nature, international functionalism came to Denmark. Inspired by the Bauhaus movement and his French colleague Corbusier, the young Jacobsen wanted healthy homes filled with light, air and views, kitchens as functional laboratories that gave the woman in the house time and energy for other things, and immediate access for everyone to amenities such as bathing facilities , shops, theater and gas station. Here you are 'king in your own house' and yet at the same time also part of a consciously shaped, rational and functional whole, which, with superior design and location in the landscape 'just so', has formed the school for almost all Danish terraced housing that has followed since.
