About this space
Modest contribution to the whole Diner Johan Mortensen Eisen was behind this relatively modest classicist property, when several houses sprang up around the newly laid out Højbro Plads. The open square was now supposed to act as a fire belt after the catastrophic fire that in 1795 laid waste to entire neighborhoods in the city - and in general to do the city credit with a certain grandeur and dignity near Christiansborg Castle. Amagerkoner was given permission to sell fruit and vegetables on the square and still did so when in 1902 Absalon was allowed to watch Christiansborg on horseback from the square. Towards the place where, in his time as the city's bishop, he built a castle and, according to history, founded Copenhagen. The house once housed a composer and dealer in music and paintings, Emil Hornemann; he was the one who gave us the melody for 'High from the green top of the tree' - not that bad.
