Reformed Church Presbytery - Åbenrå 34, 1124, Denmark
Operated by Karberghus
About this space
The city's oldest of its kind & Still Standing In 1687, the Reformed Church was built with an associated residence for both French and German priests. Only the church survived Copenhagen's first major fire in 1728, and the current residence was built on the ashes of the old one in 1730. A house with a ground plan shaped like a 'T' for two homes with mirrored identical layouts – in both German and French. Builder Philip de Lange, who must have rushed through town immediately after the deed ended, to the task of building another of our properties – Zieglers Gaard in Nybrogade – was behind it. Perhaps in collaboration with colleague and compatriot Felix du Sart, who was probably the one of the two who particularly favored the use of the prominent baroque volutes, which can be seen on the facade both here and in Nybrogade. Right up until 1948, it continued to be rented out as a priest's residence; from 1965 de Lange's bold, robust and simple stone massif formed the framework of the Museum of Music History.
