In a safe haven On the outside, Hans Just Pakhus respectfully joins the street scene in the Østerbro residential quarter, which grew up when the Frihavnen was expanded and Copenhagen had growing pains to the north. However, the neoclassical facade of red brick hides a secret. Because in the interior, the warehouse represents the earliest infant Danish steps towards industrialism and functionalism with an overwhelming and massive construction of concrete cast on site by hand. 'Mushroom columns' packed with reinforcement as if it were a warehouse on the other side of the Atlantic, carry decks designed for heavy loads and fire safety, erected in the time just before industrially manufactured building elements made their entrance. At the time, a favorite topic of conversation among the people of the city, surpassed only in height by the city's new town hall tower and even provided with no less than four elevators – one of them even for cars! Built for the family-owned wine and spirits company Hans Just A/S, which continues to operate from here under the management of the 5th generation. Karberghus A/S also resides at the address.
