About this space
Traditionally, society forces us to choose between working at home and working as an employee. When working for an employer, we have the benefit of community and structure, but we lose the freedom and ability to live by our own rules. When you work at home, you can enjoy greater independence, but you face human and professional isolation. Independent workers, whether they are project collaborators, VAT numbers, micro-enterprises, constitute that segment of the workforce considered "atypical", as opposed to a "typicality", identified in traditional, subordinate, permanent employment relationships. Only these are entitled to protections and rights (sickness, maternity, unemployment, severance pay, etc.), vice versa, "atypical" work is almost totally devoid of them. This situation leads us, as "independent knowledge workers", to explore other forms of protection and social rights, centered on mutualism, co-management of work spaces, sharing of resources and experiences. For all these and many other reasons, coworking is exploding, and the number of cowork spaces in the world is doubling every year. There are already around 1,800 of them on the planet. Coworking is therefore not a technological innovation, but it is innovative in its methods, as it provides a global and coherent response to the needs of independent workers.
